Mullah Abdul Rashid Ghazi, a radical Deobandi Islamic cleric and one of the leaders of the radical Red Mosque (Lal Masjid) and its associated Koranic schools - the Jamia Hafsa madrassah for women and Jamia Faridia for men. Abdul Rashid Ghazi and the Lal Masjid had links to Pakistani intelligence (the ISI), the Taliban and al-Qaeda, and were involved in a long-running dispute with the government. In July 2007 this led to a siege which ended when special forces stormed the mosque. Abdul Rashid Ghazi was one of at least fifty militants killed.
