Nicolau with his nephew. Nicolai is a second generation Cape Verdian son of workers that came to the island during the era of Portuguese colonisation. He was born in the 'Roca Ferreira Governo' where he still living, his parents use to use to be 'contractados', migrants from Cape Verde, working on the plantations. Nicolau works in agriculture to help his sister and her child with whom he lives with.
