Non governmental organisation SOS Pantanal trains firefighters from Fazenda Jofre Velho, near the Transpantaneira road. This project promotes prevention of and rapid response to forest fires in the Pantanal through a network of rural brigades. The Pantanal region is the largest tropical wetland in the world, an important carbon sink and site of unique biodiversity. It has been facing the largest destruction by burning in its history.
