Kiev (Kyiv), UKRAINE

Parts of a statue of Lenin lies dismantled in a car-park behind Kiev's history museum. The statue used to dominate the main square in Kiev, the Square of the October Revolution on Khreshchatyk Street. It is surrounded by the statues of other Soviet figureheads which were removed during 1991, the year of Ukraine's independence. The main square was renamed Independence Square in 1991.
