People queue at the office of 'Memorial', an organisation set up in 1988 to investigate crimes carried out under teh Soviet System. In the run-up to Ukrainian independence, government archives became accessible and people were able to access information about their families. Some people were offered small amounts of compensation for abuses suffered under Communism.
