Pipes near a pumping station at the Porong River used to drain the mud. Since May 2006, up to 50,000 people in the Porong subdistrict of Sidoarjo have been displaced by hot mud flowing from a natural gas well that was being drilled by the oil company Lapindo Brantas. The 'Lusi' mud volcano has continued to flow at a rate of up to 125,000 cubic metres per day.
