Plastic bags containing contaminated waste stored near a public housing estate abandoned since March 2011 due to elevated radiation levels.

The entire population of Futaba was evacuated en masse after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. Since 2013, only 4% of the town has been open to visitors and residents, who are only permitted to return during daylight hours. The town has remained uninhabitable and has an actual population of zero.
