Altamira, Para, Brazil

Police officers photograph and examine the body of a man killed in rural Altamira. The police have laid out bank notes found on the dead man which they say indicates he was executed and not killed during a robbery. In 2017 the Atlas of Violence published annually by Brazil's Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA), ranked Altamira as Brazil's most violent city. The homicide rate in 2015 reached 124.6 deaths per 100,000 residents.
