Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus), Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago. Conservation status: least concern. Clockwise from upper left: a bird nest, bird skeleton, Rainbow Lorikeet and specimen storage boxes. The species is widespread in Australia and New Zealand. Released accidentally into the state of Western Australia in the 1960s, it is now considered a pest due to its negative impact on fruit orchards and due to competition for food and nesting sites with native bird species.
