Rebecca Bangura (12, in red) and her friend Mabinty Kargbo (12) photographed outside Rebecca's shack in Kroo Bay. Both girls are pregnant. A 2010 UNICEF report found that 41% of Sierra Leonian girls gave birth for the first time when they were between 12 and 14 years old. Sierra Leone has one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the world. One in eight women risk dying during pregnancy due to lack of adequate maternal health care and facilities.
