Riot police walk down a dirt road inside the Bom Futuro National Forest to remove invaders who had set up a camp with about 200 shacks inside the reserve. In 2019, Bom Futuro lost 874 hectares of forest, according to INPE (National Institute for Space Research). This is the largest loss of vegetation cover in this conservation unit in 12 years.

Empowered by the president's speeches, criminals who were already engaging in illegal activities such as invasion of indigenous lands and protected areas became even more willing to intensify their actions.
