Sodertalje, SWEDEN

Sarah, a newly arrived Christian Iraqi refugee, shows a picture of her children, who she had to leave behind, to a fellow Assyrian in an underground refugee resource centre. Four months later, Sarah, who had to flee Iraq because she had worked for the American authorities there, was granted asylum by the Swedish government. Thousands of Iraqi refugees are now living in Sweden after fleeing to Europe from their war-torn homeland. Many of them have settled in the poorer neighbourhoods of Sodertalje.
