Shervin Khorramian came out as a gay man in the 1990s when he was attending college in Los Angeles. "In the early years, it was really lonely to be the only openly gay Iranian in a sea of people", he says. However, the support that he received from his friends and family have served as an inspiration to him for helping others.
For the past 25 years he has been an activist in the LGBTQ (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) community, and he currently volunteers his time to help create a safe space for the Iranian LGBTQ community in Southern California. "In my lifetime, I want to see an Iran where queer identity is accepted and not criminalized."
