Herat, Afghanistan

Single mother Qamar Gul, her son Said (5 months) and her two daughters Sumaya (9) and Mariam (7) huddle in the open in a makeshift camp.

About one thousand people have moved from their villages and farms in the countryside due to the food-crisis, and are now living in subhuman conditions. Their hope is that local government or relief organisations will help them and provide at least some food, medical care and warmer tents. In almost all the small tents there were sick people and no help had yet arrived despite that they had already been waiting for months.
