Staff working for Memorial, an organisation set up in 1988 to investigate crimes carried out under teh Soviet System, inspect a skull exhumed at a mass grave in Slavsko which was the district headquarters of the KGB in the Carpathian mountains near Lviv until 1960. Some of the bodies were of Ukrainian partisans who fought against the Soviet authorities, but most were ordinary people killed by the so-called 'Red Broom'.
