Suprianto showing fang marks from the bite of a non-venomous snake at the family home in Kediri. His father, Samijan, is a traditional healer who specialises in herbal potions that feature cobra blood, bile and spinal cord amongst other ingredients. According to Suprianto, the snake blood is for strength and vitality, while the bile has curative properties. Suprianto says he has been spat at by spitting cobras 'often', and simply rinses the venom out of his eyes, but has only been bitten by one once. His father says he has been bitten ten times. Both men say they treated themselves with the potion they specialise in.
