Baiona, Galicia, Spain

Susana (left) and Isabel Gonzalez collect percebes (Goose barnacles), a luxury seafood item, from the shore near Baiona on the storm battered coast of northern Spain. The dangerous business of harvesting percebes for sale generates millons of Euros each year in Spain, providing a livelihood for many families. Although tightly regulated due to the economic crisis many people have been attracted to illegally poaching the crustaceans creating an unsustainable strain on the natural resource.
