Tags and small pieces of paper with messages of support for women and condolences tied to a tree in Clapham Common, close to where Sarah Everard, a 33 year old woman, was abducted and later found murdered in Kent in March 2021. Following the discovery of her body, the area around the bandstand became a memorial to Sarah Everard, whose death sparked a nationwide call for an end to violence against women and girls. An off-duty police officer, Wayne Couzens, was arrested and eventually confessed to the abduction, rape and murder of Everard. Her death has brought about a wave of demonstrations and discussion of a change in attitudes to and violence against women.
