The Falletta Building, an apartment block built in the rationalist style and influenced by Italian avant-garde architecture, in 1937/38 by architects Giuseppe Cane, Carlo Marchi, Aldo Burzagli and A. Fulgini. Asmara is a showcase of 1930s Italian Art Deco architecture. Initially brought to the region by in the colonial-era, the style continued to flourish into the 1960s as local architects furthered the distinctive designs. UNESCO is considering making the city a World Heritage Site in recognition of its outstanding Modernist architecture.
