The goddess Mazu deity is carried to the palanquin (left) inside which it will sit for the duration of a 200km pilgrimage starting at the Taoist (Daoism) Gongtian Temple and completed by many followers who will walk the entire route taking about four to five days. The temple has hosted the annual pilgrimage for the last 110 years but in 2020, the procession was banned, due to COVID-19 restrictions. In 2021 the event is back on and is predicted to attract more participants than ever.
