The renowned priest Sikatenda delivers mass at the 'Palais du Peuple'. Previously a nurse, Sikatenda says he received a message from God that he should instead cure people by building a church. He claims to have cured many people with fatal diseases. Religion is a flourishing business in poverty-ridden Kinshasa. Over 2000 Pentecostal churches have sprung up over the last few years, promising miracles but delivering little to alleviate the hopelessness of the worshippers. Some of the charismatic preachers, however, have amassed huge personal fortunes. Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire).
