New Wushan, Yangtze river, CHINA

The Three Gorges Dam Project will force up to 1.3 million people to leave their homes when they are flooded by the new, 600km-long lake. Wushan, a typical small Chinese city with narrow streets and a busy atmosphere, will be flooded in 2003. The new Wushan is being built about 200 metres higher and three times bigger. Here, a young worker collapses under a heavy load while carrying goods in the new city.
