Tour buses parked along the highway beside tiny Baishatun village from where a palanquin in which the goddess Mazu deity is to carried on a 200km pilgrimage which sets off at midnight from the 200 year old Taoist (Daoism) Gongtian Temple. The pilgrimage route is completed by many followers who will walk the entire way taking about four to five days and be taken back by the buses. The temple has hosted the annual pilgrimage for the last 110 years but in 2020, the procession was banned, due to COVID-19 restrictions. In 2021 the event is back on and is predicted to attract more participants than ever.
