Freetown, SIERRA LEONE

Two members of a local band look out of the window of their hotel room, which also serves as a dressing room during shows. The Khadgibs Motel Plaza is located in Eastern Kissy, an extremely poor area which was heavily affected during the rebel war. A new musical genre combining rap, Hip-Hop rhythms and protest lyrics has emerged in Sierra Leone following the brutal ten year long civil war. The music is widely regarded as conveying the 'voice of the people' and representing the conditions of the country's younger generation during its post conflict period.
