Elbasan, Albania

Two unemployed men looking for scrap metal on a former industrial site in Elbasan. An intensive programme of industrial development during the communist period boosted the city to 75,000 inhabitants. Today most of the industrial infrastructure on the site is abandonned. A cement factory and two foreign owned metal factories are still operating. Elbasan continues to be the most industrially polluted region in spite of the decline in industrial activities in the country.
