Vinay, age 11, wearing a T-shirt which says Ă¢€˜Can we please change the subject'.
Abbie first met Vinay when he was 12 years old. At the time he was wearing a T-shirt which said CAN WE PLEASE CHANGE THE SUBJECT. Vinay has always been positive and has not let his weight affect tho things he likes doing, like Bollywood dancing.
Vinay used to dread things like swimming lessons at school where he used to cross his arms and hide from other pupils. His parents received a letter from school when he was in Year 6 expressing concern about his weight. Some of his relatives would make jokes about him not fitting through the door which annoyed him and he used to fight back with words when pupils at school made fun of him. Over the years, Vinay has lost much of the weight but still has 'man breasts'. He thinks that he was overeating out of boredom, not out of depression and now feels that he doesn't have to change the way he is because he's going to college where people are more mature. He's happy with his decision to lose weight and even though he used humour to deal with taunts in the past he didn't want to be fat.
He feels that weight for him is more about appearance than about health and he's happy with his current circumstances, getting on well with his parents, sister and uncle. He also got straight A's for his A-levels and has been accepted into King's College London. He still does Bollywood dancing and loves French and French movies. He's also trying to read more books and is very sociable while also taking part in charity work like coffee mornings. (A longer text is available on request)
