Mendoza, Argentina

Virginia Leopardi moved from Buenos Aires to rural Mendoza to establish winery Finca La Rosenda with her partner Alejandro Schettini.

As a 2-person operation, the output of wine is relatively small, but the process involves a lot of hard labour, including manually mashing the grapes to extract the juice.

From start to finish, the winemaking process at Finca La Rosenda is chemical-free.

''We just wanted to make a wine that was not elitist, one that was honest'', says Leopardi, who says they 'stumbled' into winemaking in their early days, picking up bits from books and from neighbours. ''We thought no one was going to understand, but then we put 'natural wine' into the internet and realised there was a whole international movement we didn't know about''.
