Aral Sea, UZBEKISTAN

Women pushing a pram along a track between Muynak and Ucgsay, on what was once the shore of the Aral Sea. In 1964 the rivers supplying the Aral lake were pumped dry to irrigate cotton crops, the so-called white gold" of Central Asia. After that autumn the tide never returned.
