Pulau Ketam, Selangor, Malaysia

Workers unload a barge of various supplies, including concrete, food and home furnishings, at Pulau Ketam, literally translated as 'Crab Island'. It is located off the coast of Selangor and famed for its 'floating houses' that come into view as visitors approach from the mainland. Perched casually on long wooden stilts, these dwellings are suspended about one to four metres above sea level and populated mostly by Teochew and Hoklo (Hokkien) Chinese who are occupied in the fishing industry, the island being a major supplier of seafood to the Klang Valley.
